  • People Judge Me For Working Retail

Today an old friend from college was in shopping at Bed, Bath and Beyond. I said hi to her and she looked super confused for a second and then replied, “Hi, Laura. Why are you working here?”

  • Snooping: It May Not Be What You Think

A friend of mine recently wrote a post about parents snooping in their kids’ rooms. Her view of it varies greatly from mine, so I thought I’d add my two-cents in. You see, we have different experiences when it comes to parental snooping. And although my opinion is different now, I once was in exactly the same place as her.

  • Xanga Makes Me Happy

This is a long lost recording of what was to become the music for my Xanga Commercial. The commercial never materialized, but I stumbled upon the song today and thought I’d share the draft with you.

  • When Low Self-Esteem Goes Public

For those of you who don’t have a Facebook account, there’s a thing called status updates where you can write anything you want.  People usually write where they are, what they’re feeling, and vague emo statements. There is a Facebook “friend” I have that updates every other day, and this person’s statuses all go something like:

  • A survivor of child molestation

Due to recent conversations I’ve had with people about how women feel after a rape, and where they place the blame, I have decided to tell my story. Maybe I have no right to say how a rape victim should feel. Maybe I am overstepping my bounds on this one, but I will overstep nonetheless.

  • With and For; The Valentine’s Day of a Divorced Hopeless Romantic

It’s been four years since my divorce.  It’s been four years since I last celebrated Valentine’s Day.

  • Giveaway: Win a Trip Around the World!

Ireallylikefood has parterned with LangLearner on their Cultural Smarts Contest.

How culturally smart are you? Have you ever been told that you’re using the wrong utensil for a particular entree? Or you’re not supposed to walk into a certain area with shoes on? Ever found yourself in other situations where you had to learn about certain cultural customs (maybe even the hard way)?

Tell them and you may win ticket around-the-world!

We believe traveling offers lifetime experiences. Mastering a language and keeping abreast of cultural sensitivity can significantly enhance the overall experience. As a result, travelers can better immerse themselves in the culture, the social life, and the food.

We are looking for lessons and tips based on your travels and cross-cultural experiences.

  • I Broke Up With Facebook

So I violated the rules of Facebook. I replied a nasty message with a nastier message. My account has been completely disabled.

Doesn’t seem like a big deal? Try being a college student without a Facebook. I had 850 friends and most of them I kept in contact with only on Facebook.

Initially I didn’t know what to do. How would I let my friends know what I was doing? How would I know what they were doing? What do I do online now? How will old friends keep in contact? Would they even remember me?

  • Dear Xanga.

I have a confession: I am one of those Xanga girls who drool over pictures of thin girls and write things such as “Stay Strong! Think thin!” in the comment section of other girls’ blogs.

Xanga, I don’t want to be that girl anymore.

  • Transbodied

The word “transgender” has always been a hush-hush word around my house. If people don’t understand the meaning behind the word “gay”, it’s unlikely they’ll ever even want to hear the word “transgender”.
